Medical Spa
A medical spa refers to a facility in which various types of medical procedures are performed under the supervision and guidance of a certified health care professional. The International Medical Spa Association is the leading authority which sets the regulations and standards related to medical spas.
To most individuals, this type of spa is still quite unheard of. Although medical spas have been existing for a couple of years, surveys about spas have been made wherein less than fifty percent of the respondents are aware that such a facility is available. However, with the increasing number of establishments that host this type of facility and the growing awareness of physical health and aesthetics among individuals, the popularity of medical spas is expected to grow in the coming years.
Medical spas are classified into two categories: preventive/wellness and aesthetic/cosmetic spas. Medical spas which focus on wellness are designed to maintain and improve health. These spas make use of the therapeutic effects of water with the help of alternative and complementary medicine. Some of the more well-known ailments that are treated by health spas include arthritis, insomnia, and certain types of injuries. Moving on, spas with a cosmetic orientation mainly involves medical procedures which improve the appearance of a person. The facility makes use of high-tech equipment and devices, prescription medication, and if required, surgical intervention. Spas that specialize in cosmetics more frequently include the term “medical” in their names. On the other hand, medical spas which focus on physical well-being are at times called wellness centers. |
